About Dr Thomas

Bert J Thomas, MD Bio

Dr Bert J Thomas, MD, has helped expand the frontiers of joint replacement surgery since 1979. His experience includes more than five thousand successful hip replacement surgeries, knee replacement surgeries, and shoulder replacement surgeries. He has revised over one thousand failed joint replacements, referred to him from around the world. Dr. Thomas has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters on joint replacement, and has helped design today’s leading joint replacement technologies.

In addition to being extensively published in the topic of joint replacement, he is also frequently published in the subjects of orthopaedic robotics and navigation. His expertise has made him highly sought after for surgical training, and he has been invited to present his process to professionals throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Dr Thomas is a host of the Visiting Surgeon Program and an instructor for the BIRMINGHAM HIP Resurfacing System. He is also well versed in CAS systems and the advantages of robotics and automated navigation.  Dr Thomas worked closely with the design, development and evaluation teams for the PIGALILEO Navigation Sustem to integrate it with a broad range of technologies, including the BIRMINGHAM HIP Resurfacing System, total knee arthroscopy, total hip arthroscopy, and partial knee procedures.
